The Miami Heat should consider borrowing the nickname of the city’s football team for the upcoming season after an incredible dolphin saved the day for one of their dancers.
According to the Daily Mail, Miami Heat dancer Teressa Cee was swimming with dolphins while on a photo shoot in the Bahamas when she asked a male friend who was still on the boat to hold her smartphone.
As men often do, Cee’s friend almost ruined the trip by accidentally dropping her phone into the ocean, watching in horror as it plunged into the Atlantic Ocean.
Without missing a beat, one of the dolphins, Cacique, immediately dove after Cee’s smartphone, returning to the surface in seconds with the phone in his beak.
The story shouldn’t be a surprise to anybody who paid attention in their middle school science class. According to Discovery News, dolphin brains are four to five times larger than animals similar in size, making them the second-smartest animal on the planet, trailing only humans.
Cee’s friend captured the entire incident on camera. As any good millennial would do, the Heat dancer took to social media to share her amazing experience.
“We were filming on this floating platform in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. So, against my better judgment I asked someone to hold my phone for me and he accidentally dropped my phone into water and it sank to the bottom,” Cee posted on Facebook.
“Cacique, the dolphin, actually retrieved my phone and brought it back up to me. Cutest thing ever!”
Despite the mind-numbing cuteness of the dolphin’s heroic actions, it may very well have been all for naught.
As of May 2013, 63% of adult cell owners use their phones to go online. Unfortunately for Cee, she may not even be able to turn her phone on after the ordeal, let alone update her Facebook status.
The dancer’s Facebook post and accompanying video currently have over 40,000 likes on the popular social media site. People are fascinated with Cacique, praising him for his quick thinking.
One viewer, James Kim, wrote: “Dolphins are such awesome creatures.” Facebook user Yeszteyei Masochism can’t get enough of the brilliant creature, writing: “I watched this more than five times. Adorable.’
Maybe the Miami Dolphins can sign Cacique for their upcoming game. They could use an intelligent receiver.
Despite Cacique’s heroic actions, the unfortunate fact of the matter is electronics and boating do not mix well. If you’re someone who is interested in spending more time out on the water, consider leaving your electronics on land for the time being or invest in some waterproof casing. Though you’ll probably need a dolphin like Cacique to bring it back to you if it falls while you’re in the boat, should you be able to grab it in time yourself, it’ll help that it’s in a plastic baggy or waterproof casing.
