While Celebrity Divorce is On The Rise, Some Stars Stay Strong

With a busy season of celebrity splits in full swing, it’s a relief to see celebrity couples who are still going strong. Two-thirds of divorce cases are filed by women, but it doesn’t look like powerful female actress Nicole Kidman will be untying the knot with country star husband Keith Urban any time soon. In a recent story from International Business Times, the couple shared their pride and commitment for each other, calling the nine-year marriage their main “priority.”

Urban commented: “It’s what we love to do more than anything in the world.”

The couple is part of a rare sector of celebrities who are not reporting a messy divorce. USA Today pointed out a recent onslaught of celebrity separations this season, from Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner, to Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert. Even the long-standing Muppet marriage of Kermit and Miss Piggy has come to an end.

Social media has played a big part in the announcements and proceedings of these divorces, and occasionally cause some complications. When Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith were the subjects of divorce rumors, they were quick to deny the gossip. However, they were in the process of divorcing, so when their children caught wind of the rumors, Mr. and Mrs. Smith were forced to come clean to avoid any other breaches of privacy. They joined Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin in the 2014 celebrity marriage graveyard.

Other celebrities who are going through a divorce include famed Kardashian moguls Kris and Caitlyn Jenner, who began their divorce when Caitlyn was transitioning from male to female. Kris was reportedly very upset about the upset in their marriage.

“I felt thrown under the bridge,” Kris admitted tearfully on Caitlyn’s new biopic television show. “I feel like I really was blindsided in a lot of ways, and it got to me so bad that I didn’t want to communicate with you.”

Proof that the additional media spotlight only amplifies the heat of a troubled marriage.
