What folder are you trying to redirect? Did it redirect to the server successfully? Which folder are you trying to delete? Michael, I have a situation where the folder recdirection was setup incorrectly in the group policy and needs to be corrected. The problem is that it is redirecting to the servers C: drive! This is done from a server R2 domain controller.

Any ideas on how to correct this? Do I need to delete the policy and recreate it then create another GPO to change the registry on the Windows 7 workstations? Not sure why I can make other changes to that GPO and they stay when closed out but not to the folder redirection….

Thank you for this post. It saved me from wasting even more time in trying to fix this on a W R2 server! Have you ever experienced applications which are so stubborn with where they put their data that no amount of cajoling or prying can get them to release their hold on the location? I inherited an environment that has folder redirection turned on.

I have made some progress, but have run into a question. Right now, I have the folder redirection going away and it makes a copy of the contents on the local hard drive as well as leaving a copy on the users home drive. What I would like to have happen is leave the contents on the home drive and get rid of the redirection. Going forward they can store some stuff locally, but we would tell them to use their home drive for anything that should get backed up, etc.

Let me know if I can provide any screenshots to help. I am attempting to disable redirection. About a week later, I set it to not configured and that too does not seem to resolve the issue. I have now set the policy to Basic Redirection back to the user profile as well enable redirection the folder back to the local userprofile location when policy is removed. How can I force this policy to be applied? When a conduct a client side gpo update does not seem to work and I really need to get this working as we need to decommission our Outdated Server GPOs are being created and hosted on Server R2.

Any help is greatly appreciated. Just on the surface, it sounds like you may possibly have a bigger problem. After you changed the GPO, you should have either had a test user or checked with a user that needed to receive the update.

Run a gpupdate on the test user and make sure they got the updated policy. The redierected folder is clogging up my server and it lead to backpressure on the server. I took ownership of the redirected folder, moved it to an external drive and free up some space by deleting just one user files.. In particular we use it in a VDI environment because the machines get destroyed and recreated at every login cycle. Everything seems to be good , but the only problem i have is , that when i try to login from a user account , that created successfully the folder redirection on PC1 , logging with the same user to PC2 ,or PC3 which is exactly the same , i mean the OS , the folder redirection is not working.

First off this is a great article and thank you for posting it. I do have a question though and frankly I cannot find the answer in the article here. If I were to want to redirect the desktop folder in a controlled way for a selected group of people there appears to be a means of doing so via the following options:. In the Target tab there is a drop down for Setting: Basic apply to all and Advanced specify locations….

I then select a specific AD Sec Group and click apply. Sharing, you will find the ability to share or not share this folder with specific user groups. If a user is not a member of a user group, they will be listed individually. You also have the option to hide a particular folder from someone accessing the server from a remote location. As you can see in the screenshot above, administrators have full access to all folders.

You cannot modify sharing permissions for Client Computer Backups, File History Backups, Folder Redirection or the Users server folders, so don’t expect to find a Sharing tab when you view the properties of these folders. The next category of Shared Folders are user-generated folders such as the Accounting folder we created earlier.

Just be aware if you remove a folder, you destroy anything left in it! Fortunately, you’ll be asked to check a box that confirms you understand that you’re about to kill your data before the server will remove the folder. If you decide that you wish to stop sharing a user generated server folder, again it’s straightforward. Highlight the folder and select the Stop sharing the folder task. When you stop sharing a folder, note that it will no longer be accessible via the Dashboard, Launchpad or Remote Web Access.

You could create a new user on your network that has backup rights, and use that user to try to see the files inside the WSB. I would be interested in how you setup your redirected folders with exclusive access rights unticked in WSE R2.

I have tried enabling doing it on 3 R2 servers, and get the same results every time! This topic has been locked by an administrator and is no longer open for commenting.
