Yabba Dabba Do! Live Like the Flintstones in This Bizarre San Francisco Home

Although it’s not officially known as the “Flintstones House,” home buyers are sure to have a gay old time if they’re in the market for a unique home in the Bay Area. That is, if they have an extra $4.2 million lying around.

The house at 45 Berryessa Way was designed in 1976, constructed out of wire and shotcrete (or sprayed concrete) to give it the look of several amorphous blob-like shapes. Drivers and passengers who can spot it from Interstate 280 often compare it to Fred and Wilma Flintstones’ house because it looks like something from the 1960s cartoon.

Today, however, many locals are getting their first look ever at the inside of the three-bedroom, two-bathroom home after it was listed on real estate websites.

Interested buyers who want to take a peek in person have to be serious about making an offer, though. But because Hillsborough, CA, where the home is located, is one of the wealthiest communities in the United States, attracting buyers may not be an issue.

And it certainly has “wow” factor, according to the home’s listing agent Judy Meuschke.

“Everyone knows the building driving on 280, but when they come inside, they’re in awe,” Meuschke told NBC Bay Area.

Inside, the house contains cavern-like rooms with custom shelving and built-in sofas. Skylights and high ceilings illuminate the off-white concrete walls.

According to the San Francisco Gate, the 2,730-square-foot house, designed by architect William Nicholson, fell into disrepair just years after being completed. Zillow reports that the home was last sold in 1996 for just $800,000, but during the 2000s it was remodeled.

Not much else has been done to the outside of the home, besides being painted a rusty orange hue in 2007, despite the fact that better landscaping could increase the home’s resale value by upwards of 14%. Yet the price of the home has already jumped considerably since its last sale — by 525%.

If San Francisco isn’t the right part of the country for an eccentric millionaire in need of a unique home, then there’s another “Flintstones house” for sale in Arizona instead.

Also being sold for $4.2 million is the Boulder House in Scottsdale, AZ. The three-bedroom, two-and-a-half-bath home is wrapped in rock, was built in 1980, and is often referred to as “America’s Most Original Home,” according to Oregon Live.
