New Android Smartphone Could Last Up to 15 Days on Just One Charge

If there’s one major gripe that smartphone users continually have with their phones, it’s the lack of battery life. That might be changing soon, though.

According to Mashable and Yahoo! News, the K10000 smartphone, made by China-based smartphone maker Oukitel, reportedly has a battery life of up to 15 days.

The phone runs on the Android 5.1 Lollipop operating system, but it’s unlike any Android or iOS smartphone that has existed. The Oukitel K10000 boasts a 1GHz quad-core MediaTek processor, 2GB of RAM and 16GB of expandable data storage. Last but not least, it also has a humongous 10,000mAh battery.

According to Digital Journal, 10,000mAh is over three times the battery size of a normal smartphone. The typical Android smartphone has a battery capacity around 1,500mAh for lower-end models and 3,000mAh for more expensive models.

The two-week battery life of the K100000 may not be entirely accurate, Digital Journal stated, since Oukitel technically hasn’t explained exactly what level of usage a 15-day charge would allow. Realistically, it’s estimated that Oukitel’s K10000 would last closer to six days on one charge and with moderate usage.

Still, it seems that Oukitel is changing the smartphone industry in a major way, and that’s important to note considering that the number of smartphone users grows about 42% globally each year. The K10000 is around the same size as a larger smartphone such as the iPhone 6 or Samsung Galaxy — or, as a small but rather vocal group of tech lovers like to call these devices, “phablets” (phone-tablets).

For about $240, consumers can preorder the Oukitel K10000 from online retailer GearBest.

The phone is expected to be shipped out around Jan. 21, so we’ll have to wait another month or two before finding out if the K10000 is as good as it sounds.
