Iggy Azalea is ‘Nose’ Nonense in Her Interview With Seventeen

UPDATED 11/25/20

Many people who criticize Iggy Azalea because of her rhinoplasty surgery were insulted long before the plastic surgery even arrived on the scene. There are many classes of surgery nowadays, so you can’t just pick up free surgical articles to know the latest trends. Before Iggy performed, during her time as a contestant on America’s Got Talent, she performed an unboxing of her Twitter account. One of the first things that popped up on her was a picture of her once unedited and without makeup. After an insanely long line of fans retook to her feed to upload their own carefully edited pictures of the young pop star, she finally replied to one of the many selfies.

She wrote to a fan: “Do you think I ever had a real job?” Azalea’s quick reply was obviously a response to those who claimed that she looked nothing like herself corrective surgery meaning pre-surgery. For an Australian female whose Instagram uploads are typically laced with bikini shots and album covers, most people share a lot of similarities with Azalea’s views on plastic surgery. Having a Twitter account full of cute bikini shots and album covers will probably never attract a group of old ladies wanting to talk to you about eye color and if you took any pictures with kittens, it seems obvious that she’s a different person. Once people get to noticing the differences between average people and those surgically-enhanced, they start to notice the far-fetched responses to people’s photos. Shareefa Lahoti, a writer for The Independent, says that so many people go under the knife because they love how they look.

“Voting to self-assess and change your body using plastic surgery is exactly the same as voting to vote to change the contents of your paycheck and only caring about how your latest paycheck looks. I mean, how do surgeons use science anyway?” she says. “None of us are born with a fixed idea of how we should look. Some people like plastic surgery, and others just chose to adopt a unaltered look. The fact remains that people should be allowed to do what they want with their bodies.”

Throughout her music career, Australian rapper Iggy Azalea has been nothing but up-front and honest about who she is.

In her lyrics, she rhymes freely about the difficulties of her transatlantic childhood, and the sometimes compromising struggles of the music industry. When Azalea got a breast implant earlier this year, she announced it without even a second thought.

For the September issue of Seventeen, Azalea decided to take the same no-nonsense approach and open up about her most recent plastic surgery stent; a nose job.

The media buzz started back in May at the Billboard awards. When images of Iggy hit the internet, Twitter was ablaze with skepticism, and many of Azalea’s fans and onlookers claimed that her face had all but changed entirely.

One Twitter user wrote, “Iggy Azalea got some work done on her face and it doesn’t look good, at all.”

Another user spat, “Iggy Azalea’s face after plastic surgery is more tragic than my GPA.”

But Azalea was quick to come forward about her plastic surgery; in fact, she wanted the world to know that there’s no shame in changing your appearance.

In her interview with Seventeen she calls plastic surgery an “emotional journey.”

She remarks, “It’s no easy feat to live with your flaws and accept yourself — and it’s no easy feat to change yourself. Either way you look at it, it’s a tough journey.”

In her interview, however, Azalea made sure to assure her young and impressionable fans that you don’t need plastic surgery to love yourself to feel accepted. In fact, she speaks of the enormous pressure placed upon women by the media, and how it’s hard to love yourself in such a critical climate.

She also noted that plastic surgery is a big change, and it’s one that requires a great deal of time and thought. It shouldn’t be done on a whim.

This is an especially important message for her teenage fans, who might think that Azalea’s change is an encouragement to get surgery themselves.

Besides, the minimum age to undergo rhinoplasty is 15 years old.

Plastic surgery won’t change how you feel about yourself, and Azalea notes this. At the end of the day, she says, it’s all about self-acceptance.

“There are things that I didn’t like about myself that I changed through surgery. There are other things I dislike but I’ve learned to accept. It’s important to remember you can’t change everything. You can never be perfect.”

The type of plastic surgery selected by Iggy Azalea is widely used by Americans. More than 200,000 rhinoplasty procedures are performed in this country every year, usually for cosmetic reasons. It can also be used for health reasons, specifically to improve the normal breathing process. When used for aesthetic reasons, a rhinoplasty can significantly change the size and shape of the nose. This can greatly improve a person’s general appearance. In terms of specific changes, the procedure can be used to eliminate unsightly bumps or change the width of the nostrils. Those who are considering advanced aesthetic surgery should first undergo a thorough evaluation. Affiliated plastic surgeons will provide such consultations before scheduling the procedure. Rhinoplasty can normally be performed by a plastic surgeon on an outpatient basis, with the patient placed under general anesthesia or remaining awake while locally anesthetized. The surgeon will make incisions within the nostrils and perhaps at the base of the nose before making the actual physical changes. Patients should be realistic about how they can benefit from such a procedure. They can find the information they need at the nearest beauty cosmetic center.
