Obama commutes man’s sentence lengthened by typo

President Obama on Tuesday signed clemency order to correct the additional 3.5 years sentence of Ceasar Huerta Cantu.  White House said in its recent statement that Cantu had been jailed in 2006. He was charged under “marijuana distribution and money laundering” cases.

His previous sentence period was of 180 months which was a typo error. President of United States has amended the sentence to 138 months because a senior Judge ruled that it could only be fixed by the clemency order.

Last but not the least, a White House official said “Today’s sentence commutation is only meant to correct the mistake that lengthened the period of sentence of Cantu”.
